Google Home Mini leaked as Amazon Echo Dot rival Sep 19th 2017, 20:04, by Chris Smith Google looks to be following Amazon's lead by building a compact version of its Google Home smart speaker. Images of the so-called Google Home Mini were posted on Tuesday, showing a flatter, more cylindrical version of the Google Assistant-powered device. According to Droid-Life the device will cost $49, in line with the Amazon Echo Dot speaker of the same ilk. It'll come in three colors Coral, Charcoal and Chalk (red, black and grey), according to the report. The devices also sport LED lights in top, presumably to indicate when you're interacting with the Google Home Mini. These will likely mirror the Google colours, which were arranged in circular fashion on the original device, released last year. Related: Google Home vs Amazon Echo It seems certain Google will officially reveal the Home Mini at its October 4 media event. Whether Google intends to market these devices for multi-room use remains to be seen, but it seems like the likely play. This device will probably share the stage with the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones, which were both leaked in detail today. Home vs Echo The original Google Home speaker has shown plenty of promise, with Google gradually adding functionality. In the last few months it has gained Spotify support, voice calling and Bluetooth connectivity. Overall Google's device probably still trails the Amazon Echo in terms of skills, but the sound quality, and design is superior.
